| Deobalt Long arrived in Philadelphia on October 31, 1737 on the Ship William from Rotterdam. He settled in Colebrookdale Township in Philadelphia Co.in the Province of Pennsylvania, which later became Berks County close to the border of Montgomery County. The family was associated with the Lutheran Church at New Hanover in Montgomery County. Deobalt and Anna Mary may be buried there. Anna Mary's maiden name may be Burger. | |||

| Peter Long, son of Deobalt of Colebrookdale Twp, married Catherina Danner who is the daughter of Jacob Danner from Longswamp Township in Berks County PA. Peter may have died in the Revolutionary War Battle of White Plains NY. When Peter died, his oldest child was ten and his youngest was only one. His Obligation was signed by Mathias Roth, Abraham Danner, and Catherina. Catherina remarried Henry DeLong of Maxatawany. | |||

Peter Long, son of Peter Long Sr. was born in Colebrookdale, Berks County. His father died when he was just seven years old. He grew up in Maxatawany Township with is mother and stepfather, Henry Delong. Peter first married Elizabeth Kiefer. Their children's births are recorded at Delongs Reformed Church at Bowers PA. Elizabeth died in the spring or summer of 1803. In November of 1803, he married Sarah Gensel, daughter of Adam Gensel and Philipina Elisabetha Classmeyer who were associated with the Moslem Union Church in Richmond Township, Berks Co. Sarah was said to be a good singer and sang at the church in Reading. This Peter Long Family moved to Union Co (now Snyder Co.) around 1813. They settled at a place north of Shamokin Dam on what is now the County Line Road. They named their new home Chestnut Ridge (picture), a name that it still in existence today. Peter Long was a farmer. Peter and Sarah Long and some of there descendants are buried at the Shreiner's Church Cemetery (picture) in Monroe Township of Snyder County, land that was donated by his son Daniel. |

Gideon Long was most likely born in Berks Co. PA and moved to Union Co. with his family when he was one year old. Somewhere between 1860 and 1870, he, his wife Elizabeth, and some of their children moved to Prairie Rhonde Township, Kalamazoo County Michigan where he owned land and was a farmer. Two of his sons owned a store in Schoolcraft Michigan. They were in the habit of extending credit to the poor farmers in the area. It eventually caught up with them and they could not pay their bills. Somewhere between the years 1873 and 1890, Gideon was forced to sell the family farm so his son's could pay their debts. Gideon and Elizabeth moved in with their son James in Goshen Indiana where they died and are buried in Potter's Field in Oakridge Cemetery. Descendants of Gideon and Elizabeth took up a collection in 1999 and purchased a grave stone (picture) for them. |

| Cyrus Benton Long, (picture) son of Gideon Long, was born in Kalamazoo County Michigan. He was an extremely tall man. He married Matilda Drucilla. Bussler on December 31, 1874. Matilda is the daughter of Moses Bussler and Minerva Dennis. He died on April 4, 1934. He and Matilda are buried in Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol, (Elkhart Co.) Indiana, close to the Michigan state line. | |||

Benjamin Franklin Long, (picture) son of Cyrus, was born in School Craft Michigan. He was a furniture finisher and lived at 526 N. Third St. in Goshen Indiana. "He always wore those bib overalls and stood with his belly kind of stickin' out." He married Beulah Pearl Raby on December 22, 1907 and died at home on October 6, 1938. He is buried in Oakridge Cemetery in Goshen. (Don't be confused, there are two Oakridge Cemeteries, one in Goshen IN and one in Bristol IN) Beulah was born in Wolcottville Indiana on June 9, 1886 and is the daughter of George William Raby (descendant of Dr. William Raby) and Ellen Reed. She lived in Elkhart Indiana after Ben's. She is listed as a Gold Star Mother, her oldest son Bill, losing his life in France during W.W.II. She later moved inwith her son George at Lakeland Florida and died there on August 20, 1966. She is buried in Oakridge Cemetery in Goshen Indiana. |

William Leroy Long (picture) was born at home at 526 N. Third St. in Goshen Indiana. He married Hazel Celia Edson on July 23, 1927. He was known as a Violinist and also worked at the Great American Tea Co. in South Bend Indiana. The family resided at 314 Middlebury St. in Goshen. He was inducted into the Army on October 12, 1942 and was trained in Chemical Warfare at Camp Bowie. He served in England, France, Luxembourg, and Germany. While on Leave at the Rule Hotel in Nice France, he mysteriously fell down a shaft and was found dead in the morning. He is buried in Oakridge Cemetery in Goshen. |

William J. Long (picture) was born in Goshen Indiana. As a boy, he was highly ambitious and worked as a Caddy at area golf courses, once caddying for Bud Abbott of Abbott and Costello. In high school, he was know as "Peter" Long, a nickname that was given him by his football coach. He married Mary Lucille Kenaga daughter of Roy J. Kenaga. Bill, as he is now known, worked for, and later partnered with his father-in-law in the Insurance business. Soon, he became interested in housing and development and obtained a franchise with National Homes. From there he became highly successful in real estate and developed a substantial firm. He eventually was appointed to the Indiana Real Estate Commission and was in time appointed to the Chairmanship. |
